Cignal has yet to drop a set in the 2022 Spikers' Turf Open Conference, sweeping its first two matches.
But for Marck Espejo, their wins, despite being both dominant straight-setters, are much different from each other.
The HD Spikers first defeated the experience-looking Santa Rosa City, 25-17, 25-15, 25-22, before sweeping the veteran Army-Katinko, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.
“Hindi naman po sa satisfied na pero masaya po ako na malaki ‘yung naging difference ng laro namin from last game,” said Espejo on Saturday after winning against the Troopers at the Paco Arena.
“Alam ko po na marami pang maiimprove and marami pang pwedeng matutunan sa journey po na ito,” added the 6-foot-3 spiker who had multiple stints abroad including Japan, Bahrain, and Thailand.
The five-time Spikers' Turf Conference MVP spearheaded Cignal's attack against Army-Katinko with 12 points, including four blocks, to go with eight excellent receptions.
The difference between their two triumphs were all over the board including attacking, service, and errors.
Making just 33 of their 76 spiking attempts against the Lions, good for just 43.4 percent, the HD Spikers improved to 56.1 percent against the Troopers at 41-of-73.
Errors were also slashed from 19 to 14, while delivering more from the service line, tallying five aces from two.
“Happy lang po ako na sa kaunting panahon, dalawang trainings, ang dami na pong nabago and nakapagadjust po,” added the back-to-back Finals MVP in the first men's volley league organized by Sports Vision.
But a tougher competition awaits Cignal on Thursday, going against VNS-One Alicia to break an early tie at the top at 2:30 pm.
The Griffins are led by national team members Ish Polvorosa and Kim Malabunga, alongside rising stars Benedict San Andres and Yoyong Mendoza.
"Siguro ang gagawin po naming preparation ay kailangan namin maging solid po na Cignal team."
